Jeevana stands for gender equity meaning that, in the current socio-economic political context, women should be the beneficiaries of preferential option and action. Given the widespread and deep rooted disparities in all cultures and contexts between men and women, they cannot be considered equal while planning and implementing programmes for sustainable and integrated development, in order to prevent unfair outcomes emerging from an outlook which considers women and men as equal. Equity approach will lead to equality of men and women. We believe that women and men have an equal right to access and control over resources and benefits, participation in politics and decision making, gainful employment, education, health, shelter, etc. It is in this perspective that gender and women empowerment processes are integrated to our frame of local interventions.
