Community HealthJeevana’s perception of man as one single entity aspiring for physical, mental and social well-being demands for an integrated approach to deal with human problems. We believe that every illness has causes rooted in physical, mental, social, spiritual, emotional, vocational, environmental and nutritional causes. Therefore, it is not effective and possible to deal with any one of these aspects separately in an attempt to address or treat or care for an illness. It is in this context and for this reason that we adopt an integrated, holistic approach in prevention, treatment, care and cure of all human illnesses. The individuals and communities need to have this deep awareness and conviction about the total approach to health issues before they start practicing any system of health care. Building up this awareness and conviction among the poor in this modern culture of compartmentalization and specialization is a Herculean task and an inspiring challenge. This is possible only with active people’s participation and involvement of local self- government institutions (LSGIs), people’s associations, other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the wider civil society.
